3rd Trimester

Is it ever ok to schedule a c section for a baby that is measuring large?

Is there anyone who thinks it's ok?  I'm curious, because the overwhelming opinion on the bump is no.  However, my experiences IRL are quite different.  I have a number of friends who scheduled a section because they were measuring big (both by fundal height and ultrasound, flawed yes, but the only way there is to measure) and none of them regretted it or thought their OBs were cut happy and wanting to make a golf game/vacation/dinner what have you.

Because there are risks to delivering a large baby (let's say "large" is over 9 lb) vaginally, why is it "wrong" to decide on a c section?  For full disclosure, I was 9 lb and my mother delivered me vaginally with no problems and with no epi.  I'm much more inclined to go the vaginal route if I found myself faced with the decision, but I can understand why others may not want to take on the risks.
