Tacky? Eh?

A friend of mine says her mom and sister are hosting her baby shower, but she thought she'd make an event (on facebook) to see who would be able to come so she could send them an official invite (not asking specifically for addresses).

If I had been making an event, it would be so that people could give me their addresses, but I wouldn't even do that, I'd send each of them a private message asking for their address (or give them a call).

This got me thinking about if I were to be asked to get the addresses for the people I'd want to invite and if I felt inclined to make an event to get addresses (not an actual invite, although on my friend's event, the time and date are on there), would that actually be tacky? A little bit or not at all? A great time saver?
