Prodromal labor?

Im 37 weeks and 2 days along in my first pregnancy. On saturday night i started having intense contractions between 10 and 30 minutes apart( not braxton hicks, i have had those for two months and these were painful and much stronger). It lasted for 6 hours and then completely stopped. It included pelvic and anal pressure like i had to move my bowels, intense menstrual cramps and pressure in my hips and lower back. I called my midwife who was less than concerned because they never got to be " 5 minutes apart".  she said my body is preparing for labor and it could be tomorrow or in 3 weeks. i cant deal with that for days on end, i didnt sleep at all. i continue to have random contractions,  braxton hicks and pressure but nothing out of the ordinary. I was just wondering if anyone else has had experience with prodromal labor and how long after did you actualy have your baby?
