Hostess gift suggestions?

I'm hoping for suggestions for my friend who is going all out for my shower. I'm not so much concerned with cost as I am with functionality and something she will use.

She is not frilly, not girly, doesn't like massages or pedicures. She is witty, no nonsense, and has a wicked sense of humor. She is an aesthetician by trade, doing mostly Manzilians and brazilians but loves writing. She is about to be a new mom herself as of Monday, her surrogate is having twins!

I am leaning towards getting her an experience, like comedian show tickets but want to be sure it's compatible with her husband's schedule who is a cop. Also, since they're having twins I know childcare will be at a premium. I would volunteer to watch the babies for sure but my shower is 2 weeks before my c section. I may not feel up to it before their birth and am not sure I will be able to after.

Tough! Help!
