Confused about spotting

I'm 37 weeks right now, will be 38 weeks on Tuesday. I had my last cervical exam on Friday and I wasn't dilated or effaced at all. However, for the past two weeks or so, I've had almost daily spotting. It is always brown/tea colored. I haven't had intercourse at all. I know this would be normal if I was dilating, but I'm surprised that this would be happening when there's no changes in my cervix. Has anyone else had this kind of spotting with no cervical change? I mentioned it to the nurse the first week it was happening but they seemed to brush it off.
