Going Out On Leave?

So I will be eligible for FMLA protection and I have short term disability. Someone at work told me that I can go out on leave two weeks before my delivery date, is this typical and does short term just say OK because your delivery date is close?

Anyone with any experience with this. I am TERRIFIED to break my water at work!!
