Are cloth diapers really cheaper???

I just read some great things about them in addition to hearing good things about them from really experienced mommies. Just wondering if they really save money though? I used regular diapers for my son 9 years ago but Im all for trying new things and SAVING money!  Not sure if theyre just a good investment when you have several children? I dont plan on having anymore after this second boy. Its me and hubby time after that!!! lol
