baby size at 32 weeks?

Hi All! DH and I had our 32 week appointment yesterday, and Doc estimates that DS is about 3lbs 14 oz at this point, which he seemed quite pleased with. Thing is---he estimated that the baby will gain another 1/2 lb a week until 37 weeks---at which point it typically tapers off. Family members and friends say that I shouldn't expect for it to taper off---and that most gain right until the end---which would probably give us an 8+lb baby! I don't care either way---just happy he is healthy.....but, I'm wondering....what are your thoughts and experiences with this?
