cervical checks

Hi ladies... FTM here and mostly lurker. I was curious about this, so I wanted to ask. A friend of mine said her cervical checks hurt so bad that when she was in labor, she actually asked if they could wait until after her epi to do them. I have my 39 week appt on Thursday and want to ask them to check for any dilation, but I'm so freaked out that it's going to hurt like hell! Self-professed wimp here!! Don't get me started on how freaked out I am about real contractions!
