Talk to me about a turkey

I bought a whole turkey on sale after the holidays and just took it out to thaw.  I've never cooked a whole turkey before so I'm going to just use a basic recipe but I was wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks that they use when cooking one?  I know what I normally do for chickens, but this is a heck of a lot bigger!  TIA!
