When I gave birth to my son, and they went to put him on my chest, my umbilical cord was apparently very short and snapped. It was sort of like an out-of-control hose, spraying blood everywhere. (Gross, I know.) Anyway, it didn't cause any problems, but the doctor said to me, "weren't you told that you have a short cord?" I had no idea, I had never been told this at any ultrasound.
I have a new OB this time around, and I'm planning to ask her at my appointment this week if there's anything we can do to see if I have a short cord this time as well, or how it might affect the baby. Just wondered if anyone else had any experience with this? Of course Dr. Google is scaring me. :-)
