Question about going past due date

So, I'm 40w 1d and having periodic contractions/early-labor. As of my last appt on Tuesday, I'm 4cm dilated and have some effacement. My DH is convinced any moment will be THE TIME and is being really protective. He doesn't want us out and about or me doing much of anything. Me, I'm going stir crazy just sitting around the house. For those of you who've gone past your due date, did you reduce your activity levels? Should I be staying close to home? Our next appt is Monday morning, but I'm hoping I don't make it that long!
