Payment Upfront with Insurance?

I'm in the middle of potentially changing OB practices and the one I am wanting to switch to has stellar reviews but they want $500 upfront? I have pretty good insurance coverage and my current practice has only billed me on the back end for whatever insurance has not covered (ex: NT scan/bloodwork).

Does anyone else's OB require an upfront payment with insurance?? If so how much are you charged?

It just seems strange to me....
