Possible BV?

Have any of you heard or know of bacterial vaginosis? I am asking because lately I have had an off putting smell that is not normal for me and I called my midwife about it and I have to be tested for possible BV tomorrow. I read a little about it and it says to have it treated with antibiotics for sure after 1st trimester. I am so nervous to find out I might have it and then have to take the medication! i don't want to take any meds She told me they would prescribe metronidazole and I really dont want it to make me sick or have any effect on the baby! Anyone have any experience with BV or this medication??
