sharp cramping in lower back, help!

So for the past day or so I have been having menstrual like back pains that go around my right side. The one I had about an hour ago hurt so bad it was almost intolerable. It doesn't feel like RLP  at all to me. I have been drinking water all day. This is some of the most intense cramping I have ever had.  It isn't happening super close together and some of it is more of a dull constant cramping. As a ftm I just don't have anything to compare labor pains to. I also would hate to drive to the doc. an hour away just to be told it's nothing and then feel like an idiot. Just wondered what the consensus is with you ladies. I hate feeling like a hypochandriac.

I tried looking back through some older posts for something similar but wanted to just ask myself. TIA!!!
