STMs- Doula?

Sorry if this has already been covered- but for those of you who have utilized a doula- would you recommend it to a first time mom? What were the pros/cons of having one?

As of right now we are only planning on having DH in the delivery room, but I am thinking I would like some female support, someone who has done it before to reassure me. My mom is out, she's disabled, and MIL is ca-razy (I would rather chew glass than have her there).

I would appreciate hearing about your experiences! TIA!
