Dumb newbie questions

Thanks to all of you for the great advice you give everyday.  I am constantly lurking and learning new things! 

My stash is getting pretty close to complete, but I have a few (pretty dumb) laundry questions.

1. Why is liquid detergent a no-no with cloth diapers? I've been researching detergents and a lot of the websites seem to say that some F&C liquids are ok.. are those websites wrong?  (If it matters, I have a HE TL and pretty average water, not hard).

2. I think to start (LO arrives in April/May) I will plan to do an initial rinse, hot heavy duty wash cycle with detergent, then an extra rinse/spin on each diaper load.  Does that sound reasonable?  Any suggestions for a starting laundry plan?  (Obviously I may have to adjust as I go along).
