nip questions...just cause i have no idea

I feel like everyone I talk to about BF is soo for it and DH and I LOVE the idea. Also I'm a teacher and will be taking the rest of this year and summer off for the babe (April-Sept) so I'm super excited to have a chance to bond and BF...but being a FTM and only having stories to go off of I'm terrified of the painful/cracked/bloody nipples I've been hearing about. (yikes) Is there anything to do ahead of time to prep for this? (My childless married friends also all want to know, ha)
