Ear piercing the baby

Just wondering people's thoughts on ear piercing when babies are infants.

I'm in favor of getting our LO's ears pierced at 3-6mo. Especially if she has no hair (though if the wive's tale and heartburn are an indication, we should be good).

I plan on keeping the piercing studs in for YEARS.

I remember the pain I had at age 7 and the amount of people staring at me in the mall - I'd love to save her the agony and the ability to keep her hands off them until they are healed.

Any thougths?
