Engorgement question

With DS, my milk came in very soon and I was in a lot f pain. I was stuck at my mils due to a hurricane so when I came home I pumped, and had a huge supply during the time I breastfed. I am reading now that this may have been an oversupply. I could pump 10oz no problem. My ds always had a problem latching, and caused a lot of pain so we used the shield. My pedi kinda bullied me into quitting at 5 weeks ppmdue to his colic. I'm not letting this happen again, unless I decide its best.
