cramping = dilation/effacement?

Ive been having alot of pressure and cramping since I got my cervix checked last week (there was no dilation or effacement unfortunately) and although it didn't hurt it wasnt very comfortable afterwards the cramping was unbearable. I have an appt on monday and will be checked again but I have heard that menstrual like cramping can indicate the cervix opening.. anyone have experience with this? I also want to stress that I have had BHs and this did NOT feel anything like a contraction.. it was distinctly different and felt like menstrual cramping. Thanks! Also baby is head down if that makes any difference
