Gas as a sign of early labor?

I know this sounds gross, but I have been having weird cramping this afternoon, and some sharp pains, likely Braxton-hicks (though they don't follow the typical contraction pattern) AND, lots of gas pains and the occasional gas.

I wonder if I ate something that upset my stomach or if this is a sign of early labor?  It's too dark out to walk in my neighborhood so I am going to go to Target in a little bit to try to walk around there and see if I feel any better.

I have been doing some googling but haven't had much luck figuring out whether this is a sign of early labor or not.  I really hope it is as I am ready to greet this little one already!!
