What position(s) to start with?

I was not able to nurse my first two babies. With DS, we never could get a latch and at his 1 week appt he hadn't gained back any weight and I was so frustrated I just gave up and EPed for about 5 months. With DD I didn't try very hard and just defaulted to the pump while still in the hospital and only lasted about 6 weeks. I am determined to nurse this baby but am wondering about positions. With my last two the nurses and LCs that were trying to help me really pushed the football hold but I could never get comfortable with it. What positions did you find helpful when you first started?
