AW: Weaned from the nipple shield at 5.5 months

I wanted to share here because a few months ago I would read this board looking for stories of successful nipple shield weaning. I had accepted that we might be using it for a LONG time (maybe even the whole time I'm BFing) because when LO was younger she'd get pissed every time I tried to remove it. I just had to wait until she was ready.

A few weeks ago at 5 months old, she pulled it off herself one day and latched on just fine! Since then I've been trying without it, but as soon as she got frustrated I put it back on. The times she needed the shield became less and less, and now we haven't needed it in 24 hours

(And if you're still pregnant, I encourage you to avoid using one in the first place if possible. They gave it to me at the hospital the night she was born because I couldn't get her to latch. I wish they'd tried a little harder to teach me. Not a huge deal but it's just one more thing to deal with, always having it with you and cleaning it.)
