Early ultrasound

A few weeks after I found out I was pregnant I went to the doctor and had an ultrasound done! They said that I was around 5 1/2 weeks and sometimes they don't get to hear the heartbeat unless your 6 weeks or longer. And they ended up making me another appointment 3 weeks later! I haven't went back yet but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this cause I'm really nervous were I had a miscarriage last Easter!
