hospital bag logic?

So I just read the suggested list of to brings... One thing kinda boggled my mind! they say to bring pj's and clothes you dont care to get ruined because they will get ruined? My mind says you will be in pain, you want to be in comfy clothes aka ones you like wearing, and want to keep forever, not something that you can toss away! Do they really get ruined? or is that just a caution cuz it could and if you didnt get your clothes ruined how did you avoid it? 

any other advise things to bring! or what nots... I am a FTM I am worried I wont have everything I need! or I will have to much!
