Why refuse internal checks in last weeks?

I was just reading the post about dilating and noticed several ladies mentioned that they did not want internal checks with their current pregnancies and had declined them on previous pregnancies. It isn't something I had ever thought of declining so I am curious why you ladies have done so in the past? I'm not trying to start anything, just curious.
