stupid pump newbie q

Ok so....using a medela double pump...what do I do with the handheld thingies? If I sit back in a chair, the angle is wrong, milk can't slide down into the containers. So I hunch over, and after about 10 min, it's very uncomfortable. Is it just that my supply isn't strong enough to fight gravity yet while sitting comfortably?
