What on earth can you take for a cold?

Or cold like symptoms... It really feels like death but I'm still alive thankfully! lol however my doctors appointments not till later today and I can not sleep or breathe or get comfortable. From what I see online you can't really take a whole lot for this and nothing I have in my home... Does anyone know what is safe? I don't really trust google and ill call my doctor once I can but I'm miserable so I thought I would see
