Painful let-down?

Is it normal to have painful let-down? Basically, what happens is I feel almost like a shooting pain through my breasts and then milk starts to come out. Is this the "typical" experience? This continues to happen even with frequent pumping as I am exclusively pumping for twins. I'm also able to pump 8-16 oz of milk per pumping session, so I may be over-stimulated?
