Typical to have an U/S at 30 or 32 weeks?

At my appointment this morning (29 weeks) I asked how LO was measuring from the fundal height and she said a little big, and that she wanted to do an U/S at my next appointment to check things out. Is this normal? I don't remember having this with DD, I had the typical schedule of U/S (6, 12 and 20 weeks) up until one at 39 weeks to check for size thinking she was too big. Just a little concerned now, he's been measuring one cm ahead since they started the measurements (and I know these measurements aren't always accurate) but for her to want to have another one now is a bit distressing.
