Breastfeeding

When did you start pumping?

I?m curious to hear when people start pumping.  I went to a breastfeeding class this weekend.  The nurse teaching the class said that you shouldn?t pump until at least 21 days after the baby is born.   A lot of us in the class were surprised to hear this.  I had assumed I could pump from the very beginning, and then have my husband help with the bottles if I want to get some sleep.

I asked a friend about this, she thought was the nurse said was accurate.  Even when she would pump ahead of time and have her husband do the bottle, she would get engorged and uncomfortable around the same time of the feeding.

I thought the pump would give me the freedom to take a break every once in a while.  I?d love to hear if that has worked for people out there.  Thanks!
