NBR: Anyone have experience with SHINGLES?

I think my DH has a mild case of shingles. 

One day he woke up with a cluster of little bumps/pimples/a rash on his upper abdomen.  Then a day or two later he got more.

At first they just itched a tiny bit - now he says they are starting to get painful.

I want him to call the doctor and go, he thinks it will resolve on its own. 

Any thoughts/information on shingles?
