Anybody planning on quitting job after baby?

I might be forced to quit my job a few weeks before the baby is born because my husband will be matching into a residency program and we don't really get to choose where that is. If we have to leave NY, I have to quit.

I think I may take up to 6 months off before I start looking for another job (I have been saving a lot since I won't have a paid maternity leave). I am scared that without a job already, its really hard to find another job. Employers don't like unemployed people. I am also a lawyer so the job market is so terrible right now. I am pretty scared.

Do you think if I take 6 months to a year off I will be able to enter the job market again afterwards? Anybody planning on doing something similar?
