holy hormones!

DS has completely weaned at 14 months, and MY GOODNESS are my hormones going crazy!  I have had 2 periods while still nursing, but this last cycle has been the first one since weaning, and my cramps lasted the entire time, and so have headaches and major fatigue.  I am also experiencing the shortest temper and I feel like I am a rageaholic! (My poor DH)  I haven't seen much out there about hormonal changes when you wean, but I wasn't expecting it to be so drastic.  Is this normal?  Has anyone else experienced a major change in hormones once you weaned?  How long will it take for my body to get back to normal?
