How do I make it stop!?!

DD has had her two front, bottom teeth for about a month now and the past couple days she has started to bite and it absolutely kills! I remember in the past someone mentioning immediately breaking the latch, when they bite, and setting them on the floor. DD has been sick since Saturday so I felt terrible doing that, I did it once and the look on her face and the tears combined with just knowing that she isn't feeling good... I caved and picked her right back up! I've been letting her bite since then and now I think I've created a monster

Please help save my nips!
