How often does your LO eat?

My 6-week old is a big sleeper so he's down to about 7 feedings a day. I keep reading that a newborn should be nursing 8-12x per day, but I'm also a big believer in not waking a sleeping baby. His weight gain is good (up to 11 lbs from 8 lb 1 oz at birth), but there's that nagging voice in the back of my head that the reason he sleeps so much is because he's lethargic from not getting enough to eat...
