how do i EP?

i'm pretty new to EPing and i am still stumped on how to get a good supply going so i have plenty of breastmilk for LO? my plan was to just feed her formula until i can get ahead by a day's worth of milk and then rid the formula all together and pump everytime she feeds in order to keep my stock supplied. will that work? what did you do?
