Breastfeeding and AF (XP from July 2012)

Until yesterday, I was one of the die-hard, I'm-going-to-use-breastfeeding-for-birth-control moms. I'd done my research and played by all the rules. DD is 3-months-old and exclusively breastfed. I've never pumped, given a bottle, or even given a pacifier. We feed on demand, and she still eats twice a night. According to the research I read, I was in the clear for 6-12 months which was perfect timing for ttc again.

In the middle of the night AF decided to pay a visit. So much for my plans! Now we have to decide if we are okay with another lo earlier than expected or find alternate birth control asap. We never made a plan B because I was so confident about plan A.

I posted this because I'm wondering if other exclusively breastfeeding moms have also had their first postpartum period? If so, at what point? I just want to know if AF returning this soon is more normal than I was lead to believe.
