Space savers?

We have a super-small apartment, as we are looking to move out of state and don't want to sign a lease on a bigger place only to have to go to the struggle and expense of breaking the lease in a few months.  What we're working with is actually a decent-sized one-bedroom, but it's laid out in a really stupid way.  Closet space is minimal.  We do have very high ceilings, which helps, but we have cats that are major climbers, so any high-up storage needs to be very secure.

Other than buying less stuff, which is the main part of our plan, does anyone know of any particularly awesome space-saving stuff in the baby department?  I am absolutely dreading figuring out basics like stroller storage, let alone the absurd amounts of toys and other crap the baby will magically accumulate.  We are already planning to toss or store a lot of stuff...

What I *really* need is a giant wall of storage with one of those fabulous old ladders on a track.  Like in old libraries and bookstores.
