XP: pacifier?

So we sort of realized DS was overeating...taking more from bottles after BFing than he needs and spitting a bunch of it up.  We realized he was comfort sucking.  It appears we can get him to sleep for a few hrs after just the breast, if we give him a pacifier.  I know he may still be a bit young for it, but it seems like a big win for BFing and not overeating.  How do we keep him from getting too dependent on it?  What is your experience with them?
