TMI tips of nipples

Hi ladies! Feeding my LO at the breast did not work for us so now I pump exclusively. I've noticed that the tips of my nipples have formed what looks to be yellow scabs...but moist looking probably due to me pumping so often.
Anyone get this? I try to pick some off but it's a tender area kinda hurts. Some of it will come off when I pick but then it looks like pieces of my nipple is missing. Gross! I will call a doc tomorrow, just wanted to see if I'm alone here...thanks!
