Another BFing question

Is it normal for the first few weeks for LO to eat pretty much whenever they are awake? When DS2 latches on, he pretty much feeds until he is completely out. Sometimes it's two hours before he wakes up, other times it's 45 min. but it just seems that whenever he is awake he's looking for a nipple. The problem is half the time he is latched on, he's not really feeding he's just sucking. We do use a pacifier when it gets to that point, but it was not like this with DS1. And maybe it's just an off day or something, but DS2 isn't really feeding for long either. Usually he actually is swallowing for at least 20 minutes total and today it's barely over 10 minutes every time.
