XP from PGAL Used Breast pump?

So MIL bought a used Medela breastpump on ebay because she heard that's what I wanted then went online and ordered a new kit for it (breastshields and tubing and what not). While it is a great deal, I'm not sure how I feel about using it. WWYD? 

Someone from PgAL suggested I ask you ladies. It's a Pump in style advance. She said to ask you if it was a closed or open system?
