Severe Cramping

I'm 11 weeks along, and I've only had moderate cramping along the way. Last night, I started having terrible pains in my lower abdomen, and of course the first thing I think is miscarriage. They only lasted for just a few minutes, and I have only been a little sore today. Luckily, I haven't been bleeding any at all. I am definitely suffering from gas and constipation, so I'm hoping those were the cause. Is it normal for constipation to cause such awful pains?
