Milk Supply Frustration

My little one is 8 days old. He never latched on properly and now he won't nurse at the breast at all. I've been pumping regularly to increase my milk supply but after 24 hours of pumping I barely have 4 ounces. What am I doing wrong? My mother suggested getting a prescription for harmones to increase my supply but i was hoping to do this without meds. Help!
