cluster feeder at night

So in the evenings LO is a cluster feeder... for example I will feed him at 5 then 6:30 then 8 or 8:30 when during the day he usually goes 3 hours in between. About once a week he won't go to sleep after that last cluster feed and is fussy and wants to eat nonstop. These can't all be growth spurts could they? Other nights he does his cluster feeds and goes right down? I am really at a loss!
