Breastfeeding

accessory breast tissue (sore/swollen/lumpy armpits)

I started pumping the day after my son was born and have not had any issues. I pump for 15 minutes every 2-3 hours and am getting a good amount. Day 3 after the birth of my son, I woke up with very sore and swollen armpits. Under my left arm pit, it feels like 3 lumps and 2 lumps (like the size of large grapes) under the right. I asked the lactation consultant about it today and she said it could be accessory breasts, which she explained is breast tissue under the arms that is producing milk, but may not be attached to my actual breast, where the milk can come out of the nipple.

The lactation consultant said if it is due to milk that can't come out, it should dry up. So I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how long it took to resolve.

LC said if it doesn't clear up in 2 weeks, to see my OB...which I may do before then because this sucks.
