Is it different from teaching a newborn? My DD is 7.5 months old but we have been using a nipple shield since day one because I have such flat, soft-tissued nipples. She recently has started pulling the shield off halfway through a feeding and latching on directly. However, her latch it very shallow and it hurts a little bit. I'm not sure how perfectly I can get her to latch due to my anatomy, but I think we can improve with practice. Does the open wide/sandwich technique still work with an older baby, or is there something else I should try? I'm so happy to be weaning from the shield after so many failed attempts, but I'm worried that going too long with a poor latch will change that.
