My brain may actually explode

MIL keeps DD until January when she is going to daycare. We purchased her a carseat base for her car so that if she needed to take the baby anywhere, it would be easy. She never put it in her car until she had to go pick up my stepson from school who was sick. She installed it wrong and rode my 3 month old around forward facing and then let a 12 year old reinstall it "correctly". Am I out of line for wanting DH to check it and make sure it's installed right? My personal opinion was that it should have either already been put in the car or, at least, she should have put it in and taken it out a couple of times to make sure she could do it correctly.
